BACK IN THE 60'S
They say it was a milestone that I at last have crossed
When youthful days are all long gone
When innocence is lost
I always feared it would be grim
A plunge into despair
But now I find – to my surprise
That I don’t really care!
I’m happy and contented – I like the empty nest
The kids all grown and on their own
I know we did our best
I’m not ashamed to reminisce – nostalgia can be fun
I don’t regret a moment when all is said and done
And Oh, there were some moment
Some frightful some sublime
My best friend Shirl and Daddy’s girl, suspended now in time
The music and the magic – the thrill of letting go
The wild days – the “Purple Haze” surround me still I know
My kids when they were tiny, my Manny tried and true
I can’t image life at all without the three of you.
When my son got married I saw such love and joy
and an indescribable bonus when they had their little boy
My beautiful brilliant daughter
So accomplished in every way
With determination you can’t describe
She amazes us day after day
Although time does take it’s toll
The rewards outweigh it all
My vanity still tugs at me
But I’m resolved to stand up tall
I still see the rebel in that “Purple Haze”
Locked in the reflection on which I gaze.
So come on 60’s take your best shot
I’ll give it everything I’ve got
You haven’t heard the last of me
And to quote “the best is yet to be”
When youthful days are all long gone
When innocence is lost
I always feared it would be grim
A plunge into despair
But now I find – to my surprise
