Birds---
On my drive into work I went out of my way
The usual route was crowded today
I gazed out the window as I stopped for a light
That's when I noticed an interesting sight
It was one of those places with birds everywhere
On wires, in trees, their chirps filled the air
I could see them in rows - Just waiting up high
Lined up like soldiers against the blue sky
I thought of my Mom and what she would say
How she'd roll up the windows and cower away
She couldn't stand birds - a lifelong fear
We relentlessly teased her each time one came near
Being outside at restaurants was always taboo
And something dear Mama just would never do
Birds once attacked her --- long ago way back when
And she was afraid that they'd do it again
Now more then ever I wish she was here
I'd shield and protect her and keep her from fear
I so miss our talks on my commute every day
She'd listen attentive to all that I'd say
Somehow I know -- like the birds---now she's free
Just over my shoulder and always with me
Her calm reassurance is now mine to keep
Through all waking moments --
and at night when I sleep.

Mahj in Heaven--
There must be maj in heaven
Now that Mama Kip is there
I can see her at the table
Sitting firmly in her chair
There must be maj in heaven
She's with Millie, Barbara and Sue
Clara is out betting and Susie's with her too
They said Shirlee "we've been waiting
rack the tiles and lets play"
A heavenly game of maj Jong
Forever and a day
Her bright green eyes are happy
Her skills cannot be beat
Her friends are up there with her
In heaven again they meet
I hear the tiles clicking
When I listen late at night
I know there's maj in heaven
And mama is all right
