Written for Mark and Carrie’s Wedding
Today as you walked down the aisle
For an instant I could see
A precocious little toddler
At the age of two or three
Good natured like your Papa
So smart like Grandma too
Analytical like your Daddy
Part of each of us in you
In the echo of the wedding march
As you went to meet your bride
I could hear the big wheels roaring
On the bikes you guys would ride
I recall with fond affection you
And the “boys from the hood”
The posse down on Stillwell Road
The camaraderie so good
Then we left Cincinnati
uncertain what we’d find
The only home we’d ever known
Our loved ones left behind
Who knew that soon thereafter
Your “bashert” left her home too
As we stood beneath the Chuppah
It seemed life yesterday
That I stood there with your father
The years just slipped away
Little did we realize then
what life held in store
The hopes, the fears,
the joy and tears
The good times and much more
The awesome thrill and wonderment
Of you and your sister too
All this and more than words can say
Is what I wish for you
Whenever the road gets rocky
as some days it’s sure to be
Remember how you felt today
Hold fast the memory
And to my brand new daughter
You've stolen my heart too
For when I look in my sons eyes
They glow with love for you
Today as you walked down the aisle
For an instant I could see
A precocious little toddler
At the age of two or three
Good natured like your Papa
So smart like Grandma too
Analytical like your Daddy
